Welcome to 2017 Jones Engineering Leinster Open Sea Races

Wetsuit Races

Following Swim Ireland’s decision to introduce a license for triathletes to compete in swimming events, Leinster Open Sea and the host swimming clubs will be introducing a third Wetsuit race at some but not all of our races.

In order to compete in the Wetsuit race swimmers must:
•        Have a competitor number from Swim Ireland see Swim Ireland Webpage;
•        Read the Rules and Swimmer’s Declaration;
•        Register with https://www.howdidyouswim.com/register3.php;
•        Have received a Race Number;
•        Be over 18 years of age;
•        Pre-register https://form.jotformeu.com/71273411534348

As it is our first year running wetsuit races and in order to anticipate demand, Wetsuit swimmers must Pre Register at https://form.jotformeu.com/71273411534348 by the Tuesday before each weekend’s races.   We will post reminders up on our  Leinster Open Sea Facebook page.    When we close entries on the Tuesday we will post up a list of  swimmers accepted.  (Swimmers do not have to pay in advance, if you think it is probable that you will swim please complete https://form.jotformeu.com/71273411534348.)

The wetsuit races:
•        will not be handicapped;
•        all swimmers will start at the same time (men and women);
•        will not count as qualifiers for the 87th Dún Laoghaire Harbour Race or the Jones Engineering 98th Dublin City Liffey Swim;
•        will not be part of the Swimmer or Club of year competition; and
•        prizes will not be awarded.

Leinster Open Sea and the host swimming clubs will be running the wetsuit races as a separate race after both the the men’s and ladies’ race have finished in order to prevent:
•        dilution of safety cover provided by rescue boats and Kayakers;
•        overcrowding the entry and egress points at races;
•        overburdening the race teams with additional numbers at registration and at race finish;
•        large number of swimmers imposing on and inconveniencing other users of Leinster’s beaches and shoreline; and
•        traffic congestion at race locations.

Leinster Open Sea have published a revised 2017 Calendar showing the races where there is an additional third Wetsuit race.

Leinster Open Sea and the host swimming clubs are running the third Wetsuit races in locations where there is capacity to accommodate additional swimmers safely and where the additional race and swimmers attending will not cause inconvenience to others.

Leinster Open Sea hope that swimmers will welcome and encourage new competitors who decide to join us this year for the 2017 Jones Engineering Leinster Open Sea Races.    Leinster Open Sea hopes that in time all new swimmers will get bitten by the sea swim bug (as many have already done) and take the next steps to join us in the ordinary men’s and ladies’ races.

Leinster Open Sea wishes all new swimmers a happy, safe and enjoyable summer of sea swimming.

Men’s and Ladies’ Races

The introduction of the Wetsuit Races will have little if any impact on the Men’s and Ladies’ Races.
